The Drive to Indiana

Let me tell you the best way to travel with four children ages 2, 4, 5, and 7.

  • Get them up at 4:15
  • Sit them on the toilet
  • Put them in the van
  • Leave your driveway by 4:30 on the dot in the midst of a thunderstorm.
I’m telling you this is an amazing trick.  And it works perfectly.  We drove for 3 hours solid without talking before needing to stop for breakfast.  Then, we stopped for a half hour.
We had to eat in the rest stop because it was raining outside. No one cared that there were kids running around screaming.  Mostly because no one was in the building. Again, perfect!
We piled back into the van and gave everyone their activity bags from grandma–full of little gifts.  That entertained them for 2 hours.
We drove through Chicago, stopped for lunch, and drove our last hour from 12:45-1:40 to our first destination.
NO Visual equipment needed on leg one!
After a birthday party and a “good” night’s sleep, we are enjoying a day out of the van.
And now in Indiana, we are soaking in as much cousin time as possible and will be going to Lake Michigan and the Sand Dunes!
