To Fly or Not to Fly

We have never been farther than Indiana (we live in MN) with our children.  With that said, we have never been farther than Wisconsin with all four children EVER!  So this summer is going to be somewhat interesting.  As you may recall, we are going on a trip to Upstate New York this summer.

As you may recall, I asked, I begged, I pleaded my husband to fly.
As you may recall, he said simply, “no.”
But the more I think about it.  The more right he is.
Unless we suddenly win $5000 for this trip alone, we cannot pay for the psychiatric costs that flying would cause in our family.
A road trip will only take $2000 of psychiatric care.
But flying?  Oh, so much more.
Let me explain.
First, we would have to fly into an airport that was 3 hours away from our actual destination.  So we still will have to drive.
What if our luggage gets lost?  Will they be able to get our luggage to us if we are over 3 hours away?  If our luggage gets lost, won’t it take all weekend for them to get it to us and therefore keeping us from wearing any clean clothes for the entire reunion?
Even if we didn’t check it?  I don’t want to lug 6 bags onto the airplane.  One for each of us, but you know that Mom would end up carrying them all because…..
We would have to rent a car and bring along all the boosters and car seats (equalling 4, may I remind you).  Whose going to want to lug those on and off the plane?
Not to mention we would have to bring all our sleeping gear and such along with us and what if that didn’t make it on the plane?  What would we sleep on at the camp?
So I think it’s better that we drive for 3 days.  At least all of our stuff will be with us.  The whole time.
Every.
single.
day.
that we have to travel.
Right?
