A New Focus

I have a new purpose for A Traveling Thought.

I love to travel.  One of my dreams and goals for my life is to visit the 6 inhabitable continents. I want to experience culture.  All kinds of culture.  I want to see how other people live and eat and adapt to each other and their environments–both natural and economical.

I have no desire to travel to Antartica as I don’t want to learn about the culture of penguins.

People?  Yes.
Penguins?  No.

I have already been to Mongolia three times for a total of 8 1/2 weeks.  I have experienced 6 days in China (I have stood on the Great Wall of China 3 times–my guess is that not too many people can say that; not even everyone in China has done that).  Unfortunately, it was all in Beijing, but those short visits were incredible making me want to go back and learn more!  I have even been to South Korea for a night and a day.

I want to visit Africa. Visiting Europe is my dream.  South America and Central America are on my list.  Heck, I even want to see Mexico.  I live in Minnesota.  There is a greater chance of visiting Canada than of visiting Mexico–although I am in the Mexico-visiting minority of my friends.  I have been to Canada; even though I have not gone too far past the border.

These dreams are on hold right now as I am busy being an active mom.  I am not willing to travel across the ocean alone and miss my children growing up. So instead, I am going to do some traveling around my neighborhood and telling you all about the adventures.  I live in the Twin Cities in Minnesota, so this year, I am going to focus on points of interest in Minneapolis and St. Paul.  Each week I will focus a post on a new location.

Also, I will try to give good traveling advice for families:  Good places for pit stops, restuarants that are family friendly, games for the car, airport hints.  I want to be helpful, but whatever I say will only be suggestions.  What I will tell you is not fool-proof.  I may even add humorous traveling stories of our family.  With 4 kids from ages 1 to 6, there are bound to be some great stories (I use the term great loosely–it’s all about your perspective!)

But as I build this website, I plan on traveling more and telling you all about it.  Moving on to the upper Midwest like outstate Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, Iowa. You know the states neighboring MN.

Please join me as I travel around my town and enjoy my discoveries.

Anyway, all this to say

Sounds fun, Gianna 🙂 We were just in South Dakota for five days last week — so my next few blogs will be about that. I know you'd agree with this — you don't have to go to Africa to see something that's wow. There's amazing stuff all over God's earth! I'm sure you'll find TONS to blog about in the 5 states you listed …

  2. I'm not big on traveling, but I love reading about others traveling experiences. :o)

  3. I too LOVE to travel. Though I haven't been anywhere nearly as exotic as you have been. Maybe, one day…

No lie, I just had a friend tell me she is thinking of visiting MN… will have to pass along your tips. 🙂
