How to Make Cowboy Cupcakes Complicated

Step 1.  Decide you are going to make Cowboy Cupcakes.
Step 2.  Realize that you have NO IDEA what that means.
Step 3.  Buy little plastic horses without a clue as what to do with them.
Step 4.  Look up on the internet “cowboy cupcakes.”
Step 5.  Decide that the green frosting idea is a good one.
Step 6.  Read further and think to self, “now THAT’s a good idea” and decide to color coconut green so that it looks like grass.
Step 7.  Make the cupcakes.
Step 8.  Color the cake batter green.
Step 9.  Make the frosting (or in my case, scoop the frosting out of the Betty Crocker container) and add coloring.
Step 10.  Remove the frosting from the mixing bowl and wash bowl.
Step 11.  Return the mixing bowl to the mixer and throw in the coconut.
Step 12.  Have an “epiphany” and decide to make the coconut brown so that it looks like straw.
Step 13.  Watch as the food dye you have turns the coconut the color of Little Orphan Annie’s hair.
Step 14.  Freak out (this is a very important step).
Step 15.  Frantically dig out your regular food coloring and shoot in a stream of green.
Step 16.  Pray that it will cover up the “red.”
Step 17.  Choose to call it alfalfa.
Step 18.  Come up with a brilliant plan to toast the coconut so that even if it looks nasty, at least it will taste great.
Step 19.  Wonder how to toast coconut.
Step 20.  Preheat the oven to 350 and pour the coconut out on the pan.
Step 21.  Put the pan in the oven for 3 minutes.
Step 22.  Frantically (again) look through cookbooks about how to toast coconut.
Step 23.  When the timer goes off, remove pan, swish the coconut around, and replace pan in oven for another 2 minutes.
Step 24. Continue to look for directions as you have not found them yet.
Step 25.  When timer goes off, repeat directions in step 23 except replace for 5 minutes.
Step 26.  Take deep breaths.
Step 27.  When timer goes off, swish the coconut around, decide it is ready, and turn off oven (yet another very important step that occassionally gets missed at our house)
Step 28.  Ask superstars if they want to help.
Step 29.  Change your mind and tell them they can watch.
Step 30.  Promise them that they can lick the frosting off of the different utensils.
Step 31.  Meticulously frost each cupcake.
Step 32. Sprinkle an entire bag of greenish brown toasted coconut over the cupcakes.
Step 33.  Jam in all the horses (and mules) you can into each cupcake and hope they will stand up straight.
Step 34.  Put the tray on the top of the refrigerator.
Step 35.  Hope that no one knocks them over by shaking the refrigerator violently.
Step 36.  Serve at Cowboy birthday party without mentioning any of the above.

Okay, I plan to fully execute said plan, but need a few more details about number 14. Can you describe how one should freak out? Does it involve running around the kitchen?

  2. Jenny Aust says:

I read this twice and am STILL laughing! Step #17 is my favorite!

  3. gianna says:

I freaked out internally, but personally, I love the idea of running around the kitchen waving your hands in the air while screaming your head off! tee hee!

Jen, I think I had Dacia's help in calling it Alfalfa! Maybe!
