feed me books friday–bread and jam for frances

Feed Me Books Friday
I am participating in a new carnival called, well, you can see what it’s called.
I just met Janna (through her blog) and she is an awesome mama. She is silly and loves YHWH and now on top of everything, she is starting a children’s book carnival. How can you but not LOVE her?

I would like to recommend the book bread and jam for frances.
frances is this little badger who doesn’t like any food except bread and jam because “with bread and jam I always know what I’m getting.”

Her mama is brilliant, and Frances learns a valuable lesson about variety.

We have read this book so much. We have 3 boxes of books stored away that I try to occassionally switch out for the superstars, but this one pretty much always stays on the shelf because they love it so much.
It’s a bit long and wordy, but Frances is so adorable. Chris and I have both at different times found ourselves tired of reading it (they pick it ALOT). Luckily, then, we can ask the superstars to ask the other one of us to read it, and they still get to hear it.
Russell Hoban’s Frances is definitely worth the read. There are other Frances books but this is the one that we own and absolutely LOVE.

So glad someone posted about this book – it's one of my all-time favorites!! Something about Frances touches my heart; I've always enjoyed her stories as much as my children do.

  2. Ah, have you ever met Adam Racoon? I LOVE those books! They're parables for kids, and are awesome.
Not sure if you can find them in stores anymore, but they're on Amazon.com.

  3. Thanks so much for joining us Gianna!

I LOVE Frances too. I have one about a birthday for Frances. I love all the humor that's in them b/c it really appeals to the parent as well.

I love having a special voice for Frances and I love how she makes up her own songs.

But what kind of animal is she? I've never figured that one out.

I saw the comment about Adam the Racoon too that sounds good.

It's only the first week and my to read list is getting long and exciting!

The Frances books are definitely unique! We have the bedtime one and A Bargain for Frances. Also recommended by me 🙂 would be the Frog and Toad books (especially the boxed set of 3 … which doesn't include the fourth, whatever it's called, that is not as good and kind-of weird) and Richard Scarry.
