and with that "america’s birthday is over"

“america’s birthday”
the excitement of the celebration
the packing of a picnic lunch
the blanket for a parade

the bags for candy

the new friends to help get candy at the parade

the naps in “strange” beds

the swimsuit change
the rain POURING down on our heads
the playing in the rain instead of swimming in the river
the packing of the car to go home in the pouring rain

the “happy fourth of julys” to shawna (and john)
the ride home in the bright sunshine
the bath before grandma and grandpa come
the joy of grandma and grandpa arriving
the picnic supper

the s’mores

the playing outside with neighbors

the waiting for dark

the private toddler fireworks show

“why do we need to go to be-ed?”
“because america’s birthday is over!”
“oh. when will it be america’s birthday again?”
“in one year, little one. in one year.”
