my grandma is turning 80 on monday, so today we were priviledged to be able to celebrate at ANOTHER birthday party (we haven’t had enough in our family lately). we got up this morning and drove to willmar (which incidentally didn’t take as long as i had imagined it would take especially since we left 45 minutes AFTER i wanted to).
we arrived at the home where my grandma is living, told the girls that they could play but they couldn’t scream, and walked in to the party room. oh, i forgot to mention, that chris’s cell phone battery was dying. we don’t know why. we needed it to work so we could get to my grandma’s place because i didn’t know where it was, what it was called, or how long it would take to get there. so i called my mom, and when she answered, i said, “weareinwillmar, youneedtotalkfastbecausethecellphonebatteryisalmostdead!” she gave me directions (and i had to tell her we were past the road she told me, but i don’t think we were, but maybe!), i was able to repeat them, then we hung up and i reached far back into my brain to remember where we were going. THAT was the most stressful part of the trip! but we got there and when we got there, we saw my parent’s vehicle so all was fine.
roger klinghagen, grandma (lavina peterson aka the birthday girl), and georgie reider (i know here full name must be georgiana or something, but all i have ever know her as was georgie so thus georgie must remain!)
this was the first time my grandma met her great grandkids (i am a terrible granddaughter. i guess i was kind of scared to see my grandma after she got sick, but it’s STILL not an excuse to show my grandma love!) great grandma LOVED her great grandkids even though she didn’t understand they were a part of her. she thought they were GREAT! it was so adorable, amazing, and awesome! and dane was such a great sport! she let her hold him and move him around and sing to him and made NOT a peep! what a great boy! maya let great grandma play and sing to her, too. maya is SO sweet. she even sat next to her for pictures. brin was a bit timid, but she would perform in front to great grandma (she even sang a little bit of happy birthday to her!). brin just didn’t want to be touched because that scared her.
