success! part one

below you will see the first part of our first ever friend birthday party.
everyone really ought to be getting up from their naps right now, but it took me 45 minutes to get the pictures in the right order and now i want to blog about them so they are going to be sleeping a bit longer! and this is only the first part (although, there will be less pictures in the next post. i guess i don’t know. maybe–chris downloaded my parent’s camera and i gotta find the pictures somewhere on my computer. i’m not sure where they are!)
chris and i stayed up pretty late making sure the house was cleaned and decorated. i had been on my feet all day and was so exhausted. but today, all the pain and exhaustion made it all worth it!
my mom made a bunch of decorations and after getting started decorating and with chris ingenuity, we had a very very fun circus feel to our house!
the games were super fun! we read Olivia Saves the Circus and then played that we were in a circus! we all dressed up in dress up clothes and walked a tightrope and did somersaults and pretended we were trained puppy dogs! that was super fun!
then, we played pin the nose on the clown: including aunt lis (see picture) and grandma clown.
my parents came and dressed up in their clown costumes and everyone called them grandma clown and grandpa clown. it worked out really well!
after that game, we gave each friend a bag and they hunted for circus peanuts.
after we did the circus peanut hunt, everyone sat down at the tables and made clown hats. after the clown hats were finished, we then took pictures of each “clown” (those are the pictures that i need to find somewhere on my computer).
then, we had lunch. i forgot how slowly 4 year olds eat. oh, man. after 25 minutes, i was said, “okay everyone, we are going to be done eating in 5 minutes!” we were running out of time and i didn’t want to miss out on cake.
when lunch was done, we sang to maya, let her blow out the candle (picture of this forthcoming, too), and then had her open presents.
if you don’t know what clasutrophobia is then you need to surround yourself with 4 year olds watching someone open presents. inch by inch they crept forward until every single one of them (except gavan and oh,maybe sophie) were sitting on TOP of maya!
5 minutes later (okay maybe i’m exaggerating, 7 minutes later), we had cake. the really pretty multicolored triple layer cake was. a. flop.
oh, it looked fantastic! it was really pretty, but the taste? blech! it wasn’t the worst cake in the world, but we have 1/2 of it left and we are planning on throw it away (unless maya really wants it).
sigh oh, well. i guess we win some and we lose some. the rest of the party was a blast and it didn’t really take that long to clean up! i was impressed.
enjoy the pictures and remember to come back for part 2.

  3. gianna says:

actually, we didn’t make it jello. maybe i will do that for brin’s. it was enough work to get the rest of the ingredients. thanks for being the guinea pig, though! it was super helpful!

it is totally amazing how many times we have used the clown suits… who would have guessed we would still be using them at this age!!! Gianna and Chris you did an unbelievable job with this party
