kordatzky’s series of unfortunate events

At the very last minute (or so we thought), we decided to drive to Illinois for a family reunion for Chris’s side of the family. We planned on leaving on Friday right after I came home for work. Thursday night, we were relaxing with Chris fishing and my friend, Rachel, and I hanging out with the girls when Maya started burning up and throwing up EVERYTHING she had eaten for supper. It went everywhere. I called in to work to say that I didn’t think I would make it in and also Chris to come home for fishing. Friday was an exhausting day. It began with me only having 2 hours of sleep because Maya was sick in the middle of the night. Those 2 hours were on her hard floor, too. That morning,I talked to the on call nurse to figure how to help Maya’s fever to go down since she wasn’t keeping anything down. and the rest of the day was exhausing. If I wasn’t with Maya, I was with Brin, and the same was true for Chris. We got no down time. Even during naps, Maya would wake up every hour crying because she was so uncomfortable. But when she woke up from her nap for good, I asked her how her tummy felt and she said, “It feels Happy!” I knew we had turned the corner. Now we just had to get rid of the fever. That night, right after she went to bed, it broke. Her pillow was drenched, but her fever was gone!
So with all this happening, Chris and I determined that going to Illinois would not be the wisest decision even though we both wanted to go so badly. Instead, we called my mom and dad who live an hour and a half away to see if we could escape to their house for Saturday and Sunday. My Uncle Chuck and Aunt Peggy were going to be around since they leave in less than 2 weeks to go to Kenya and I didn’t want to impose. However, it turned out to be a great family reunion on my side. My cousin Angie and her husband Nate Arant were there for a wedding and it had been a while since Angie and I have had any time to talk, so it was really good. So even though, we would have LOVED to go to Illinois, it was a nice gift from God to spend some time with Chuck and Peg and the rest of my family.

  1. we were so sorry to hear about Maya. we totally understand the decision to stay at home. we missed you but we would have done the same thing. we’re so glad to hear she’s doing better and hoping that you and christopher both got at least a little sleep. it always amazes me how a child’s cold seems to drain the parents almost as much (if not more) than the child. love to all of you!

Yea for an impromtu family reunion! There seemed to be a lot of double and triple ones that weekend…I’m really looking forward to seeing you guys in August!

Ruhama, I still want to hear about your wine tasting you held. Natalie, I wish she had just had a cold…but I guess I’m glad it didn’t take her very long to get over it!

I’m so glad Maya is feeling better…and all of you are getting more sleep! Sammy threw up on the way to a student’s open house last month, and even though I REALLY wanted to hang out with oure students, I had to drop Brad off, drive home, clean up the car seat, wash Sammy…you know the drill. Even though my heart hurt for Sammy and her little tummy ache, I was a hair bitter that I had to be the one to take care of her and Brad got off the hook. But that’s what parenting is all about right? (And I really wouldn’t change it for the world!)
